Every company with files asks one question: who accessed what, and when?
FileDesk lets you manage your company file server from one panel: every file access is logged, accidentally deleted or overwritten files can be recovered, and access is controlled by department. A 5-person office and a 200-person company have the same need. It’s currently running at a real business; we’re building an early access list for public availability.
What it offers
SMB file sharing
Department-level folder shares accessible directly from Windows and Linux clients.
User and group-based access
You decide which department/group can see each share; role-based management (admin/superadmin) controls who can change what.
Recoverable trash
Accidentally deleted files can be recovered from the panel within 30 days — a safety net before permanent deletion.
Full tracking on every file
Which user accessed which file, when, and from where is logged individually — “who did what” always has an answer.
Retroactive file versions
Even if a file gets overwritten, you can roll back to a prior state from daily snapshots. Every restore leaves its own audit entry.
Department-level permission management
Any share can be made read-only, have its access group changed, or be removed entirely — without deleting the files.
Coming Soon · In Active Development
In development
Independent encrypted backup
Off-host, encrypted, and regularly tested backup + restore drills — a production priority.
In development
Mandatory 2FA for all admins
Two-factor authentication is currently required only at the top permission level; it’s being extended to all admin accounts.
In development
Disk health monitoring
SMART-based early warning so a failing disk is caught before data loss.
In development
Always-on endpoint monitoring
The monitoring agent on department computers is being made persistently connected and encrypted.
Real external customer data won’t be accepted until these four items are complete. Early access members will hear first.

Frequently asked questions
Is it usable right now?
The panel is running for internal use at a real business. Security and backup work for public customer signup isn’t finished yet — the early access list will be prioritized once that’s done.
Is my data safe?
Independent/off-host backup and 2FA for all admins aren’t complete yet, so real customer data isn’t accepted at this time. Production use won’t open until these steps are done.
Will it be paid?
Pricing hasn’t been determined yet. Signing up is currently completely free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
Is it compatible with Windows network shares (SMB)?
Yes — file sharing runs over the standard SMB protocol; it’s accessible directly from Windows Explorer and Linux clients.
What happens if I accidentally overwrite a file?
You can roll back to a prior version from daily snapshots; every restore leaves its own audit entry. This is a different protection layer than the trash — trash is for deletions, version history is for overwrites.
Can I share a specific file with just one person?
Sharing currently works at the department/group level — you decide which group can see a given share. Per-file, person-specific link sharing isn’t available right now.
Transparency note: FileDesk is currently in development and not yet ready as a public product. New customer data won’t be accepted until independent encrypted backup and mandatory 2FA for all admins are complete. This page is only measuring early interest — no payment or subscription is requested. This announcement is published by ElephantNY.
